My skin is the most naturally flawed of anyone. Some individuals are blessed with perfect, beautiful skin. Then there are some, such as myself, who weren’t. I’ve always had sensitive skin, so I’ve spent a lot of time studying and finding out how to acquire clean skin.
The first thing I want to emphasise is that everyone’s route to clean skin is unique. What works for one individual may not work for another. What causes a breakout in one individual may not cause a breakout in her closest buddy.
Perhaps it is most likely why, as a child, I was persuaded to think that there was nothing I could do to obtain clean skin short of unpleasant medicine. They claimed that my food had nothing to do with my breakouts. They told me it was hormonal, and I’d grow out of it.
When I was in my twenties and thirties and still hadn’t outgrown my acne problems, I assumed it had to be inherited. But unfortunately, I was born with problematic skin and would have to live with it for the rest of my life.
Fortunately, I continued reading and investigating. Bad skin can be quite disruptive to one’s life; therefore, I wanted to do all in my power to improve it. But, unfortunately, there was much more to the tale than they were telling me.
After years of experimenting with everything from the apple detox diet (seriously!) to every acne product under the sun, I wanted to share the things that have made the most of a difference in my skin’s health.
My skin is far from flawless or clear all of the time. I was hesitant even to upload the above photo since I still have a lot of flaws. BUT, at 40, I can report that my skin is clearer than it has ever been. Most of the time, I’ve worked out what helps and bothers my skin the most, as well as how to acquire clean skin. This post is for those of you who are still looking for solutions.
In the photo above, I’m not wearing makeup (save for a little mascara), which is something I would never have done in my teens, twenties, or early thirties.
How to get clean skin?
You may do a few things to enhance the condition of your skin. Our skin is the largest organ in our bodies, and contrary to popular belief, what we eat and how we live have an influence on it. So we can influence its look, at least to some amount.
Some individuals may need to accomplish everything on this list to obtain clean skin (raises hand), while others may need to make one change in their lives. As I previously said, how to acquire clean skin is highly particular to the individual. But there’s a good chance that whatever I’ve said here will be useful to you.
Find the best skincare regimen for you.
Going to bed with your face covered in makeup isn’t going to be healthy for your complexion. You must have a nightly skincare regimen. While not washing your face at all is generally not a good idea, cleaning it too often or with too harsh a cleanser may also wreak havoc and trigger outbreaks. The trick is to figure out what works best for you. This will often need some trial and error. It took years for me to discover the correct mixture for my skin.
The oil cleaning procedure was what ultimately worked for me to balance the natural oils in my skin and stop the breakouts. Washing your face with oil may seem paradoxical, but it turns out that oil was just what my skin needed. It naturally regulates the oil on your skin.
Yes, you do need some oil on your face–removing it completely tells your body to produce more, which may lead to even more outbreaks! The oil cleaning approach balances your natural oils by removing harmful oils and germs while replacing healthy oils and bacteria.
If you don’t like the oil washing procedure, opt for a mild cleaner that won’t remove the oils. A basic Charcoal Cleansing Bar is ideal, followed by a lightweight moisturiser.
Most topical treatments, I’ve discovered, treat the symptom rather than the cause. It is preferable to address the underlying cause of the breakouts rather than merely the symptom. When you do this, you get trapped in a never-ending cycle of treating breakout after breakout!
Maintain a safe distance between your hands and your face.
Oh, this seems to be so straightforward. If you’re continually caressing your face or resting your chin in your hands, it’s a difficult habit to change. However, if you’re aware of it, you can force yourself to stop and save your face.
Your phone may also transport acne-causing germs to your skin, so avoid talking with your phone near to your face for lengthy periods, if possible. Instead, hands-free communication is the way to go!
Wash your bedding often.
Your skin is in contact with your bedding for 6-10 hours every night. (Wait, who am I kidding? I can’t remember the last time I slept for ten hours!) You want it to be in contact with a clean surface. Dirt and germs travel from your sheets and pillowcases to your skin, clogging pores and causing outbreaks.
If you have severe acne, I recommend that you change your pillowcase every night. Otherwise, changing it 1-4 times a week will help keep your skin clear. If you have body acne, the same method for changing your bedding is recommended.
Changing your mattress might sometimes be the solution to getting clean skin!
Your hormones must be balanced
The most difficult one on the list. Hormonal imbalances cause your body to communicate the need for increased oil production, resulting in excess oil. The overproduction of oil causes breakouts. The simple thing is recognising it. But, unfortunately, it’s not as simple to keep our hormones in check.
A variety of factors may lead to our hormones being out of balance.
Hormonal imbalances may be caused by a poor diet and digestion. Refined carbohydrates and an excess of lipids rich in omega 6 fatty acids, such as safflower oil, sunflower oil, cottonseed oil, canola oil, soybean oil, and peanuts, lead to hormonal abnormalities.
Focus on eating healthy fats, such as those found in avocado and wild-caught salmon, as well as plenty of fruits and vegetables, to maintain hormonal balance. Read on to learn more about how our nutrition impacts our skin!

Control your stress
Chronic stress is one of the most important contributors to hormone disruption. There are several natural methods for dealing with stress. Daily meditation has been a huge benefit to me. Get rest and enough sleep
Sleep deprivation and disruption of your normal circadian cycle may both lead to hormone imbalance. Try to go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time. Your hormones function on a schedule, and they like it when you do as well. If you’re having difficulties falling asleep, here are some natural sleep aids. If you have trouble getting quality, restful sleep, a supplement designed to enhance sleep, such as this one, maybe beneficial. This is one that I use and like. Regular exercise is essential
Regular exercise not only reduces stress, but it also helps keep your hormones in check. Make sure you exercise on a regular basis, but don’t overdo it, since this may also contribute to hormonal imbalances!
Exercise is a crucial aspect of keeping your hormones balanced, which may help you maintain clean skin. If you sweat a lot and don’t shower right away, you may be contributing to blocked pores and more breakouts. This does not happen for everyone, but if you have acne-prone skin, this is something to think about. After working out, try to shower and change into clean clothing as quickly as possible.
Not too much, not too little, What is the appropriate amount? Of course, this is dependent on the person. Strive for three strong workouts each week at a minimum, but be sure you take a full rest day at least once a week.
Avoid hormone-disrupting substances.
Unfortunately, our contemporary culture is full of items that disturb our hormones and produce imbalances. Avoiding all plastic items as much as possible is one way to counteract this. It’s also critical to utilise personal care products free of hormone-disrupting toxins.
Think carefully about augmenting.
There are vitamins that may help you naturally regulate your hormones, allowing you to have clean skin.

Improve your diet, eat balanced food.
Eating correctly might help keep our hormones in check, but there’s more to the tale when it comes to diet and good skin. Dairy, gluten, refined carbs, and sugar are the top four foods that might trigger breakouts in certain individuals.

Getting clean skin is a process that is unique to each person. Unfortunately, there is no secret drug that can help you obtain clean skin quickly. However, if you have patience and take the time to understand your body and how it interacts with its surroundings, you can naturally get the finest skin of your life.
